Lean Process Improvement – Identification of Wastes and Defects

By Editor on 9/15/2016

Seven WastesLean is an initiative that focuses on continual improvement and on eliminating or at least reducing waste in work processes. Lean promotes a culture where the workforce is responsible for continual improvement and is motivated to identify non-value in their work, to never pass a defect. In a Lean workplace, the workforce has been empowered to own the quality of their work and to find solutions to problems.

Utilizing the problem solving worksheet: What’s your plan?

By Editor on 7/26/2016
Continual improvement is the key to upholding quality – one of our core values, and it is essential for sustaining the long-term success of our business and organization.  At the Institute for Quality Management in Healthcare we believe in delivering high quality, world-class services to our customers and our goal is to not only meet but to exceed customer expectations. To accomplish this, any improvement process, such as Lean, must be accompanied with a good plan. Without a well-thought-out plan, the probability of success is greatly reduced. In a recent news blog The value stream map: Where’s the bottleneck? , we discussed the importance of mapping out the current state process first before attempting to improve it. By indicating the time it takes to complete each step in the process, it will help guide the project team to determine the steps that do not add value and are considered bottlenecks in the process. Each bottleneck is to be considered a separate lean project.

The value stream map: Where’s the bottleneck?

By Editor on 6/23/2016

Understanding our service realization processes at the level where the value is being produced is a major part of our continual improvement process. As part of our well-developed quality management system (QMS), our document management system contains hundreds of processes and procedures that define and describe key processes in the delivery of accreditation, proficiency testing, and education services to our clients. A clear understanding of the work process allows project teams to successfully identify bottlenecks and helps with the development of improved processes that will eliminate non-value added steps saving time and resources.

Lean: Project teams

By Editor on 5/4/2016
IQMH upholds its promise to deliver high-quality products and services by maintaining processes that are regularly reviewed for continual improvement. This cycle of process improvement is evident in our well-established quality management system.  As an organization committed to continual improvement, it is natural for us to seek ways that support that goal and that’s where Lean comes in.

QIC celebrates a new year with a clean slate

By Editor on 1/27/2016
It has been five years since the IQMH Quality Improvement Committee (QIC) was formed. Their initial mandate was to lead projects to improve coordination and communication of events between all departments identifying valuable opportunities for improvement. Together with all staff, QIC led the exposure of organizational defects in a blameless environment and provided solutions using Lean methodologies aligned with the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) Cycle — team-based problem-solving methods and metrics to improve processes of delivering value to our participants and customers.
