Together with our affiliate, Accreditation Canada, IQMH is recognizing World Accreditation Day, a global initiative established by the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) and the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) to promote the value of accreditation.
Each year, the ILAC and IAF commemorate World Accreditation Day on June 9 to highlight the role of accreditation in advancing quality of health care.
This year, the ILAC is promoting the theme, Accreditation: Supporting the Future of Global Trade, to show how accreditation supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Accreditation is a vital part of health care as it assesses health care and social services organizations against standards to identify what is being done well and what needs to be improved. It ensures the care that is provided meets the utmost standards of quality and safety. This helps foster trust among health care providers and patients.
Through the work of Accreditation Canada Diagnostics, medical laboratories that become accredited are required to participate in a proficiency testing program. At IQMH, the proficiency testing programs assess the ability of laboratories to provide an acceptable standard of service by comparison with peers. Medical laboratories that participate are able to identify testing and measurement problems, perform risk management, compare methods and procedures and improve performance.
IQMH is committed to empowering tomorrow and shaping the future through accreditation by inspiring continuous learning and improvement in laboratory medicine.
