The prevalence of diabetes among Black Canadian adults is over two times the rate than in White Canadians.
Specifically, Type 2 diabetes in Black Canadians is caused by genetics, but also in part by social and environmental factors, including cost of treatment and comfort levels in discussing health concerns.
Addressing inequities in health care will allow individuals requiring support to access the essential tools for diabetes management. These tests, identifying changes in blood sugar levels are assessed through the IQMH proficiency testing blood glucose monitoring survey, which provides quality and reliability in test results for the treatment of diabetes.
