IQMH is pleased to recognize the contributions of the Genetics Scientific Committee. Unique among IQMH programs, the committee members procure all proficiency testing (PT) material internally, in accordance with the Trillium Gift of Life Network Act (Ontario).
Committee members actively monitor their laboratories for challenging wet and dry cases for peer karyotyping and interpretation, while upholding strict confidentiality standards, and also prepare, package and ship these valuable samples to participants across Canada.
Since 2000, the Genetics Scientific Committee has developed and distributed 104 proficiency testing challenges, including blood, bone marrow, and FISH specimens, provided as either wet samples or dry images. These materials are not easily sourced from biobanks or large vendors, making each carefully selected case a significant achievement.
Beyond material procurement and preparation, the committee also conducts comprehensive assessments of each participant’s submitted karyotypes, karyograms, and interpretations. Each challenge includes evaluation across five distinct assessment areas for every participating laboratory.
The IQMH Genetics Scientific Committee has consistently demonstrated exceptional resourcefulness. Members continually troubleshoot complex issues, contribute meaningful insights, and support the evolving landscape of the discipline.
IQMH extends its appreciation to the Genetics Scientific Committee for its continued expertise and commitment to quality. The success and continued operation of the Genetics Proficiency Testing program would not be possible without the team’s invaluable contributions!
