Together with our affiliate, Accreditation Canada, IQMH recognizes World Accreditation Day, a global initiative established by the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) and the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) to promote the value of accreditation. Each year, June 9 marks an important day in the global health care community to recognize the pivotal role of accreditation in advancing quality in health care.

Accreditation is a fundamental pillar in the health care industry, ensuring health care organizations meet and maintain high standards of quality and safety. It provides a framework for evaluating and improving processes, enhancing patient outcomes, and fostering trust among health care providers and patients.

Accreditation Canada (AC) Diagnostics leads the promotion of excellence in laboratory medicine through accreditation programs, playing a critical role in advancing the quality and accuracy of diagnostic testing. Through comprehensive accreditation programs, AC Diagnostics assesses the competency of laboratories against international standards and best practices. This enables laboratories to identify areas for improvement, implement quality management systems, and continuously enhance organizational operations to deliver reliable and accurate test results. It is also a requirement for accredited laboratories to participate in a proficiency testing program.

Medical laboratories that participate in proficiency testing are able to demonstrate their performance competency, identify testing or measurement problems, compare methods and procedures, improve performance, educate staff, instill confidence in staff, management, and external users of laboratory services, perform risk management, compare operator capabilities, determine method precision and accuracy, and satisfy regulators and accreditation bodies.

In addition to proficiency testing, IQMH contributes to the scientific literature, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement in laboratory medicine.
