For IQMH, Black History month is an opportunity to celebrate Canada’s diverse workforce and their contribution towards healthcare services.
It is also an opportunity to acknowledge, understand and address the inequities that black people have faced historically and up to date in the communities and institutions that they rely on, and contribute so significantly to.
As such, IQMH would like to call on all organizations involved in education, research and the provision of health and social services to take this opportunity to individually reflect on and take action against the inequities in our health-care system by facilitating ways to create space for greater representation and equity.
Being silent is not enough.
This year’s theme - February and Forever: Celebrating Black History today and every day, serves as a reminder to hold ourselves accountable, not just during Black history month, but every single day.
Let us commit to building an inclusive community that welcomes and celebrates our diversity with collective collaboration and purposeful action.
