annual conference took place in Montreal from May 25–28, 2023, welcoming attendees from various sectors of the health care industry. This year’s theme, "Moving forward after 25 years of evolution," also celebrates the anniversary of Justice Horace Krever’s publication around the tainted blood crisis. The groundwork laid by Justice Krever served as the cornerstone for the establishment of Canadian Blood Services and Héma-Québec, as they undertook the task of reconstructing the blood system with a commitment to prioritizing the safety of all Canadians.
IQMH attended the conference, presenting a poster on the root causes of staffing shortages in Canadian medical laboratories, focusing on the pre-pandemic and pandemic periods.
The poster highlighted that staffing shortages in laboratories has significant implications for the quality of patient care in medical laboratories across Canada. The poster analysis discussed the nature of staffing shortages, including factors such as workload distribution and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event attracted a large and engaged audience, celebrating the remarkable development, achievements, and advancements in the field of blood services across Canada over the last two decades.
