Almost half of Canadians are expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Between 2015 and 2030, the number of new cancer cases diagnosed is expected to increase by about 40%.
Today, more is known about what causes cancer, how it develops and how best to prevent and treat it. This means, the number of people living beyond cancer also continues to grow. Many cancer cases can be prevented by making lifestyle changes. This includes making healthy choices and protecting ourselves where we live, work and play.
At IQMH, the Pathology proficiency testing program contributes to quality cancer care through rigorous evaluation of cancerous marker performance of the breast, prostate, and colon, among other areas of abnormal cell growth.
