The Review summarizes the current scientific literature regarding RhD typing of patient and donor red cells which is an integral part of all blood grouping procedures. The document was developed by members of the IQMH Transfusion Medicine Scientific Committee. The information in this document is based on the previous Broadsheet - Rh Typing (2005 and 2013). A more in-depth review of RHD genotyping and obstetrical care was added to the document to reflect current studies and the guideline.
The Review summarizes the current scientific literature regarding evaluation of a new lot number of prothrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time reagent. The document was developed by members of the IQMH (previously QMP–LS) Hematology Scientific Committee.
The prothrombin time (PT) is a screening coagulation assay that assesses the function of factor VII, factor X, factor V, prothrombin and fibrinogen.
The activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) assesses what is historically referred to as the intrinsic and common pathway of coagulation. The APTT assesses high molecular weight kininogen, prekallikrein and factor XII (the contact factors) and factor XI, factor IX, factor VIII, factor X, factor V, prothrombin and fibrinogen.
