Melanie is the Regional Discipline Manager for Transfusion Medicine in Tissue Typing/DNA and Molecular Diagnostics at Eastern Ontario Regional Laboratory Association (EORLA). She began her career as a medical laboratory professional in 1991 and has worked in a specialized role in Transfusion Medicine since 1993. During that time, Melanie worked as a bench technologist and continued into a charge technologist role in 2000. In 2019, she moved into her current managerial position in Transfusion Medicine.
Melanie has been a member of the Transfusion Medicine Scientific Committee since 2012 and highlights the value she has gained from attending committee meetings and working collaboratively with other experts from across Ontario. Melanie notes, “Each committee member is passionate about transfusion medicine, and we are lucky to have our IQMH lead to keep us on track.”
As part of her responsibilities on the Transfusion Medicine Committee, Melanie says proficiency testing challenges are created for laboratories that are involved in transfusion medicine activities. “With each proficiency testing challenge, we strive to incorporate an educational message that provide valuable insight to the participants.”
Being an IQMH scientific committee member, Melanie says, “My passion comes from collaborating with my fellow committee members. We truly feel that we are providing an important service in creating challenging but real-life proficiency testing for transfusion services.”
IQMH Proficiency Testing is grateful for the commitment and support of the medical diagnostics community, and we appreciate our volunteers who donate their time and valuable expertise to our programs. Thank you, Melanie!
