This survey is the only one of its type in Ontario and in Canada, surveying all laboratories in the jurisdiction to gather information of laboratory and infection control practices related to the control of antimicrobial resistant organisms (AROs). As the only questionnaire that was consistently administered for years, it provided a reliable, annual update of information on ARO, and the ability to examine trends over time.
This surveillance report presents data on antimicrobial resistance of common hospital pathogens captured through the surveys conducted by Public Health Ontario (PHO) and Institute for Quality Management in Healthcare (IQMH).
Watch for information on the 2022 ARO survey in early 2023. It will present data collected from 2020 and 2021, (Infection Prevention and Control Canada [IPAC] and IQMH BACT-2202-Q [2020] and BACT-2202-Q1 [2021] survey questionnaires), during which time the impact of the COVID pandemic on AROs and hospital infection control practices will be highlighted.
As always, we are indebted to the hospitals and laboratories that participated in the 2022 surveys.
