On May 20, 2022, IQMH bid farewell to Wayne Ozanne, Manager IQMH Proficiency Testing, after seven years of dedication to continuous quality improvement. Wayne joined IQMH on April 30, 2015, as a Consultant Technologist (CT) to manage the Pathology Proficiency Testing (PT) program.
Wayne started his career in 1986 at St. Michael’s Hospital (Toronto) in the anatomic pathology laboratory and held various roles within the Department of Laboratory Medicine. In 2005, he moved on to St. Joseph’s Health Centre (Toronto) for seven years where he was the laboratory manager. He then went on to Life Labs in 2012 as the technical director of operations. From 2008 to 2014, he also worked for the Michener Institute as a histology continuing education associate.
During his career, Wayne worked to obtain his Bachelor of Health Administration (BHA) from Ryerson University in 2000. He also obtained certification from the American Society of Quality (ASQ) as a Certified Quality Auditor in 2018.
Wayne wore many hats while at IQMH: CT, Manager, Assistant Associate-Director, and Interim Director. He served on the quality team, management group, and was the privacy officer. His positive attitude and gentle nature endeared Wayne to staff and committee members that had the opportunity to work with him.
Wayne’s love of Halloween, wine and dogs was well known at IQMH. He also had the greenest thumb and nursed many of our plants, especially orchids, back to health. Wayne had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and could often be seen carting around books on his lunch breaks.
On behalf of IQMH staff, scientific committee members, pathology slide assessors, and the medical laboratory community, we wish Wayne a happy and healthy retirement as he takes on this new adventure.
