The week of April 10^th–16^th 2022, saw us all celebrate National Medical Laboratory Week in honour of medical laboratory professionals and the crucial work they do that is essential to health care.

IQMH shone a light on the excellence of the medical laboratory community by highlighting the indigo laboratory coat which serves as an iconic symbol of the noble profession.

Printed on the coat in microscopic indigo type, are the names of the 1.2 million laboratory tests done daily in laboratories across the country; tests that help diagnose and treat the thousands of health issues that impact Canadians such as cancer, auto-immune diseases, diabetes and as of recent, COVID-19.

Furthermore, in collaboration with several healthcare organizations across the country, IQMH joined the Medical Laboratory Professionals’ Association of Ontario (MLPAO) to promote the #LabISEssential social media campaign whose aim was to showcase solidarity and support, as well as bring awareness to the often unseen but excellent contributions of medical laboratory technologists within our healthcare centres and communities.

We recognize and honour all the medical laboratory professionals who work tirelessly and continue to play a crucial role in quality patient care.
