Recent years have seen a significant increase in the number of cases of biotin interference with streptavidin-biotin (SB)-based immunoassays reported in the literature. Biotin interference with laboratory tests, specifically SB-based immunoassays, is potentially dangerous, as it may cause spurious test results leading to misdiagnosis and patient mismanagement.
Attention: Chemistry and Endocrinology Proficiency Testing (PT) Participants
IQMH contributed a case study article to the Summer 2016 issue of the Ontario Society of Medical Technologist (OSMT) journal Advocate (Volume 23/Issue 2). The article IQMH proficiency testing survey sheds light on Vitamin D practices in Ontario laboratories was authored by Linda Crawford and Anna Johnston. It provides insight into Vitamin D testing gathered in the September 2015 Endocrinology survey.
