If you are a licensed laboratory in the Province of Ontario, you hold a laboratory licence under the Laboratory and Specimen Collection Centre Licensing Act (Revised Statutes of Ontario, 1990). Licenses are issued by Ontario’s Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Director of Laboratory and Specimen Collection Centre Licensing.

PT-Take Away: IQMH survey participation for Ontario licensed laboratories is dependent on laboratory licenses

By Editor on 6/23/2015
In Ontario, a license is required to perform medical testing for diagnosis, prophylaxis and/or treatment. These licences are issued by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC). The relevant legislation is the Laboratory and Specimen Collection Centre Licensing Act. MOHLTC’s Schedule of Benefits for Laboratory Services identifies approximately 500 “Lcodes”, and since 1999 approximately 600 “Ucodes” have been added to the licensing database. These test codes form the basis of a laboratory licence. Licensed laboratories are mandated to participate in IQMH proficiency testing surveys, where appropriate.
